In good spirit

My old man used to make wine in our garage; we had a big house made full brick so it kept a consistent temperature downstairs, perfect for making decent plonk.

Many wine or spirit makers these days make very good cheep booze so there may be less need to make your own but... My old man used to say that the reason he made his wine was to remember how.
I can buy anything from the shop today… I took my eldest daughter to a small goods butcher recently and while I purchased my salami, she for the first time in her life realised what meat actually was… all the names like chicken, lamb, pork and beef suddenly gained a real meaning for her when she went a little white after eyeing the carcasses hanging from the hooks behind the counter.
When I was her age, about eight, I'd already witnessed my first murder... the wogs shot it in the head then butchered the beast to stick it into their freezers or smoke houses.
My wife still asks me to butcher any big chunk of meet we may purchase. She can't stand the sight if blood… So many kids have a very sheltered upbringing and just don't see the way things are in reality.

I make my own beer and will soon make some wine again in small amounts for personal booze-ups. The beer I buy in the shop is only good when I spend over fifty bucks for a case. The most popular beers on the market taste terrible and give me a hangover in the mornings while the stuff I make at home matures to be better quality than almost anything I can buy at all.
The beer I make never leaves me with a hangover, even if I drink myself into a coma I wake up in the morning feeling fine because it's all natural ingredients and there are no preservatives. In fact I reckon there is an amount of vitamin B return due to the way home brew is made leaving the live yeast culture behind.
Another bonus is the cost I make top quality home brew for less than half the price of a standard box. But don't misunderstand you can use cane sugar to make alcohol I reckon some beer brewers do a kilo of cane sugar costs a dollar. A kilo of Dextrose costs five dollars while Malt costs about nine bucks a kilo.
I was just discussing this with Bill at the Brew Shop the other day Beer made at home from malt and dextrose is a premium quality though the bonus is that I can get well over two boxes worth of the good stuff for the price of any typical Aussie beer.

At Peakhurst in Sydney Australia there's a shop called The Brew shop. It's been there since 1969 and has become a landmark when navigating along Henry Lawson Drive. The shop has a website you can order beer wine and spirit supplies from anywhere in the world.
Bill the proprietor, his brothers and his entire family are very friendly and well practised Aussie brewers with a healthy Greek heritage in the culture of making fine beer and wine.
There's absolutely no end to their knowledge of making booze of any kind so with their help you can get drunk in the highest quality.

Reality dictates that taking the time to make anything at home is the first place you can find quality in a product.
There are a few shops about like The Brew shop in Peakhurst but you have to look around your local area or just e-mail Bill at Peakhurst to order over the Net. Better still stop in to see Bill for a sample and a laugh.

Then make it yourself.

For another simple tourist visit and to taste some of the best beer on earth¦ if you don't make it yourself or you need more convincing… have a look through this site… George IV Inn for some inspiration.
