BROCK FILM TO GO AHEAD
KING OF THE MOUNTAIN, a new Australian feature film inspired by the life and career of Peter Brock and starring David Campbell and Jack Thompson, will go ahead despite the racing car hero’s recent tragic death.
Peter had been working closely with writer/director Sam Genocchio and producer Bill Leimbach to bring the fast paced action drama to the screen and he was to have appeared in the film which is scheduled to begin shooting in March 2007.
Sam and Bill spoke with Peter on the morning of the accident and Peter expressed his support for the latest draft of the script.
“Peter was looking forward to his film acting debut and he provided great input into the motor racing scenes and other elements of the script,” Sam said.
The filmmakers are now searching for an actor to play the role of Peter Brock.
“We thought of re-writing the script and we thought of fictionalising the character, but in the end we thought about what Peter would have wanted. He loved the script as it was. He really wanted to get this story up and share the trials and tribulations of racings Holy Grail – Mount Panorama - with the rest of the world,” Sam said.
“In the end there was really only one way we could go. So we are on the hunt for an actor with the integrity to play Peter in the film.”
Executive producers of KING OF THE MOUNTAIN are Tom Kennedy & Mark Tesoriero from MediaZoo who will develop the marketing, product and interactive components of the film, along with co executive producer Michael, McMichael, entertainment lawyer.
The producers describe KING OF THE MOUNTAIN as a rock ‘n roll action film that will bring a great story and new heroes to audiences around the world.
“It’s a youth film with universal appeal that is sure to set the blood pumping. Audiences will experience a love story and hard core street hood battles and will also get a good sniff of drag racing, super go-carts, street racing and power-packed V8 muscle cars,” Bill Leimbach says.
Sam Genocchio paid tribute to Peter Brock: “Peter Brock was and still is the King of the Mountain. He was a hero to every motor racing fan and he was highly respected by his peers. His life and actions were rich, honourable and passionate.”
The Producers are in final discussions with David Campbell to play local boy racer Pace McDermott who has to overcome a mountain of battles if he’s ever to redeem himself – including taking on the greatest driver, Peter Brock, on the toughest racing circuit in the world.
Campbell was applauded for his performance as Johnny O'Keefe in the stage musical Shout and in 2006 he won the Helpmann Award for Best Male Actor in a Musical for Sunset Boulevard.
Jack Thompson plays the Race Team Manager and was to work closely with Peter Brock on the film. “I was really looking forward to working with Peter. He was a hero of mine,” Jack said from the set of his latest film December Boys. “I was hoping to get some driving tips and learn more about the man. He will be sorely missed by all Australians.”
Release is anticipated to be in Late 2007.
